Rocktail Bay Lodge is situated in an area declared as a World Heritage Site. For lovers of the sea, extraordinary diving and snorkelling can be found just here, as the Maputoland Marine Reserve is situated just offshore from Rocktail Bay, offering visitors sights of huge shoals of fish, dolphins and whales.

It is thought that Rocktail Bay Lodge probably offers the most private beach experience anywhere in South Africa, with nearly 40 kilometres of unspoilt pristine coastlines where a person can walk for hours without seeing anyone in sight!

The accommodation consists of 11 thatched tree-house chalets with their own private balconies and viewing decks. Of course, if you are adventurous, you can always take a shower in the outdoor shower in the forest! And because it's all so beautiful, you can take your meals in the dining room, at the poolside or under one of the huge Natal Mahogany trees outside where bushbabies might join you. Whatever your tastes, and using only the freshest ingredients, Rocktail caters for everyone's dietary needs.

Just 11 km away from Rocktail Bay Lodge, you will find a fully accredited dive centre; they offer boating excursions out to sea where you can indulge in scuba and snorkelling activities. There is also fly-fishing on offer, or 4x4 drives to the nearby hippo pools. And very exciting, is that in Summer, Rocktail Bay Lodge is involved in ongoing turtle research, where guests are able to accompany the resident turtle expert on research drives at low tide at night, and help with the monitoring of the turtles' nesting numbers and behaviour. The Leatherback and the Smaller Loggerhead Turtle have chosen this remote stretch of coast as their breeding ground.
